Voting Biblical Values in Congress: Who Aligns With God?

September 3, 2025 by Arch Kennedy

As a believer, I want to know how our leaders are voting on biblical values in Congress. That’s why I’ve been examining the Biblical Business Index, which actually tracks how often members of Congress vote in line with Scripture. The results are eye-opening.

Featured Snippet Takeaway: Voting on biblical values in Congress exposes a sharp partisan divide—some lawmakers score 100% in alignment with God’s Word, while others score 0%.

Voting Biblical Values in Congress
The U.S. Capitol measured against God’s Word—Congress divided on biblical values.

Voting Biblical Values in Congress: What the Numbers Show

The data reveal a stark spiritual and political reality:

  • Five Republicans scored 100%, showing full alignment with the biblical values the index measures.
  • Sixteen Democrats scored 0%, meaning none of the selected “biblically aligned” bills received their support.
  • Wyoming’s delegation scored over 90%, while Vermont’s clocked in under 1%.
  • Overall, only half of Congress achieved a 50% or higher score. That leaves a significant portion of our lawmakers consistently voting against what this index highlights as biblically grounded legislation.

These numbers come straight from the Biblical Business Index—a tool rooted in Scripture and factual voting records from Congress. (bbindex.org)

How the Biblical Business Index Works

Here’s how this tool evaluates our leaders:

  • It measures five scripturally grounded “freedoms”:
    1. First Freedoms – protecting religious expression
    2. Workforce Freedom – allowing faith-based hiring
    3. Economic Freedom – resisting excessive regulation
    4. Operational Freedom – ensuring law, order, and safety
    5. Healthcare Freedom – defending life and conscience in medical policy
  • Each bill in Congress is paired with a biblical justification—like energy regulation votes being linked to Galatians 5:1, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore…” (Bible Gateway)
  • Lawmakers earn a percentage score (0–100%) based on how many of these biblically defined votes they supported.

This isn’t about partisan rhetoric—it’s applying the Word of God to real legislative decisions.

Why This Matters Spiritually and Politically

It stands out profoundly that while 87% of Congress claims a Christian identity, their voting records often speak louder than their declarations. Matthew 7:16 reminds us, “You will recognize them by their fruits.” Votes are fruit—they reveal whose kingdom they serve.

This divide isn’t just political; it’s spiritual. It reflects a cultural battle over whether our lawmakers follow God’s authority or man’s ideologies.

What Believers Should Do

As someone who cares deeply about faith and public life, here’s my prayerful response:

  • Pray for our leaders to be guided by truth and grace (1 Timothy 2:1–2).
  • Discern carefully—aligning with John’s instruction: “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them” (Ephesians 5:11).
  • Engage boldly—silence is not neutrality. Faithful action in our civic roles matters.
