The Likely Reason Why Mattis Stepped Down as Defense Secretary

I respect James Mattis and his service to our country. He is calling President Trump a threat to the constitution. That is totally out of bounds. I am tired of his exalted beyond reproach status. Here is not a very nice story about James Mattis that has never been reported and is probably the real reason why he is not the defense secretary.

There was a company called Theranos run by this young woman named Elizabeth Holmes. Her company claimed they had invented this machine that could run multiple blood tests with the prick of a finger with rapid results. Walgreens entered into a partnership with Theranos to provide testing in their stores. The machine never worked and it was a disaster for Walgreens. The company which was valued in the billions was a fraud. It was shut down by the government in the fall of 2018. Elizabeth Holmes is now facing criminal charges for fraud. Her trial is in August.

James Mattis was on the board of directors along with an all-star cast. He joined in 2016. Elizabeth Holmes got the Walgreens deal and investors by making claims that her company Theranos machine was used by the US military. Betsy DeVos lost 100 million along with many other wealthy investors. A lot of smaller investors lost everything they had.

I don’t think James Mattis intentionally tried to hurt people. His prestige was used by Holmes to carry out this fraud. He should have used better judgment. It would have been easy for him to check out the claims that the Theranos machine for blood testing was used by the US military. Theranos collapses in September of 2018 and two months later he announced his resignation. I don’t think it is a coincidence.

James Mattis should remember his own bad judgment when he calls out others bad judgment or says the President is a threat to the Constitution. One could say that James Mattis is a threat to investors because he allows his name and prestige to be used before knowing if it has been used for a legitimate enterprise.
