The great thing about Republicans is that they are individual thinkers. The bad thing about Republicans is that they are individual thinkers. The party has imploded already, and it is for this very reason. Trump is merely a symptom of the disease. And the very reason I know I am right is because many Republicans are already rolling their eyes right now at my statement.
I, myself, have really had no opinion at al
l on Donald Trump, and every time I have mentioned anything about him, I can hear the gasps through the computer as if I am some “secret” supporter of his, which is far from the truth. But I am certainly going to voice good things that I do see about him. And there is where the lunacy begins. I have never seen such in 46 years of life.
Where does this passion for Trump, whether good or bad, come from? I think from several places. The most important is “the status of our country“. The second, I believe, comes from a belief, or lack of belief, that the Republican Establishment has taken control of our country and become a tyrannical regime that does not listen to the people.
So now, we are left with two groups of people in the Republican party:
- Those that care about the Republican in name only.
- Those that have deep conservative principles who are disgusted with the status quo.
I am sure I have just lost a few readers at this point. But, bear with me here. Are we as conservatives so programmed to just believe what the Establishment tells us? When you look at Trump, you see a person not beholden to anyone. So, if you are a supporter, you are looking strictly at what he is saying, and if you are conservative and believe him, he is your man. If you are a Trump hater, and more trusting of the Establishment, then you are skeptical and say he is a liar just like Hillary because he once had some liberal views in the past.
Here is the solution to it all, and I could not care less who is for and who is against Donald Trump. My plea to conservatives, is for us to get back to conservative principles and figure out what “most“of us agree with, as a platform and go from there. Individual thinking is good, but we could learn a little bit from the Democrats on “the collective” and banding together, but on conservative principles. We already have to start over. The current party is gone. But maybe that is a good thing.
Excellent perspective. And one I agree with wholeheartedly ! Now for a name or a rebranding of the current name Republican.
The fact that I do not support Trump means that my conservatism never left me. I have my principles and values in tact. I did not abandoned what I believe to support someone that does not have my views and values. Those are the things that my parents taught me. They taught me self reliance and to solve my on problems and not to rely on Government or anything else. I want less government, Less taxes, freedom of Religion and the right to bare arms. Trump does not believe in those things and I do. I could never vote for him because of that.
I also think that you miss the point and you are going along with the Media and cry baby voters instead of looking at what we do. We are blaming others for what we have done. Every person in office, we have put there. We take one issue that a congressman or Senator votes for or against and we label them Rinos. We have destroyed every good man in Washington because we do not agree with the way that they are handling things with Obama. They are following the rules of the House and Senate and doing the best that they can with an inept leader that will veto everything and has chosen not to even deal with Congress. Yet, we are taking our anger, that Obama has caused, out on good Republicans. It is time to stop blaming Congress and look at ourselves. We are the ones that stayed home during two elections and allowed Obama to get into office and then we bitch about Republicans not fighting. Where was your fight when you stayed at home and allowed Obama to win? There is blame enough for everyone to go around. Yet, we sit there and cry that things are not going our way and no one is fighting for us. We sound like a bunch of Liberals.
I beg to differ on the points that “good” republicans are being crucified and it’s “our” fault. We did get out and vote to give the republicans the majority. What have they done with that power? Obama pulled out all the stops to get elected not once, but twice. Get out the vote by bussing voters to precincts. That’s “our” fault? I don’t think so. As a conservative I refuse to accept blame for the failure to act on the part of those we elected to stand against the liberal agenda of 8 years now. If that’s the best they’ve got then they all need to pack up and go home. Let a new regime of conservatives take over who aren’t going to bend over or give in, but fight to save this country from those who seek to destroy everything it was founded on. I am curious who “every good man in Washington” is? From where I’m at I can’t see even one. The “establishment” is so afraid of losing their power to the will of the people they are willing to sacrifice the highest office in the land to 4 more years of the same. I personally don’t think our country can survive that long without some very real, meaningful change. It already feels like I live in a foreign country compared to even 10 years ago. I also was raised to depend on me, myself and I. I will certainly figure out how to survive and will never be dependent on Uncle Sam. I think our federal government should be very limited in scope. Defend our nation and protect our citizens. Leave the rest of it up to the states and the people of this once great nation. I enjoy the freedoms afforded to us by the constitution; namely speech, religion, and the right to bear arms. What has Trump said or done that would lead you to believe that he doesn’t support these same ideals? I will vote for anyone besides Hillary Clinton or even worse in my opinion, Bernie Sanders. We still live in the greatest country on this planet and I’d kinda like to keep it that way. Donald Trump may not be the answer, but if not him, then who?
When Trump becomes the nominee, will the other candidates and former candidates stand behind the pledge they signed?
Well, one should care if it is Donald Trump based on your quote “My plea to conservatives, is for us to get back to conservative principles and figure out what “most“ of us agree with, as a platform and go from there.” Trump is NOT a conservative; he is an authoritarian populist whose recent conversion in 2012 to the Republican Party and know-nothing approach to the issues should be rendered suspect. Your point that the Party should rebrand itself I agree with, and we should rebrand it to the conservative model of Ronald Reagan. It worked then it should work now.
One has to be blind and/or deluded to NOT see the impressive and historical margins by which Trump has been winning. By all current standards this is a “mandate”. I don’t see how the will of the people could be any clearer. Things have gotten SO bad that an unprecedented number of “conservatives” have awakened from our techno/hollywood/sports-fueled trance.
D.C. has been taken over/hijacked by criminals (globalist, corporate oligarchs) who have finally overreached, revealing their inner machinations. Like George Carlin said, “it’s a big club and you ain’t in it”.
The most disturbing revelation has not been the political corruption (it is unfortunately expected to a certain degree from politicians) but the so-called conservative media parading their “Against Trump” agenda early enough into the primary process that it reveals something much more sinister. Every single name on the NRO “Against Trump” February 2016 cover has lost my respect and any future readership. Their heavy-handed premature dug-in trench warfare position revealed that they are, in fact, a part of the corrupt establishment.
Washington D.C. represents everything that is wrong with our society, culture, political class and moral fabric.
We have had a glimpse in the mirror and we see what we have become and we don’t like it. That spark of God that is alive in us has awakened and is trying to right the ship.
Trump supporters recognize that the only hope of fixing D.C. is to elect someone not entrenched the the “D.C. way”. It happens to be Trump. It isn’t all that much about Trump, per se, but he is the man for a time such as this.
p.s…… Trump has been in the public eye for 30+ years as a self-described Republican. It defies anything resembling logic to assert that we are just now discovering that he is: racist, sexist, nazi, war monger, evil….(fill in the blank with any ridiculous epithet). Step back and see how obviously ridiculous it all is.. If he were any of these things, the MSM would have destroyed him long ago.
